How to Be a Good Host
DO:
- Be clear about the kind of help you want, and communicate your expectations to your helpers.
- Be home and helping during the entire fix.
- Prepare! To make the most progress on your projects, assemble tools and equipment in advance and be ready to start at the posted time. (Check out FixKits for help determining what you’ll need.)
- Respect the hours you posted. If the fix is unfinished after the time allotted, you can schedule another fix. Your helper(s) may be willing to stay longer or come back, but their commitment is for only the originally scheduled fix.
- Take lots of pictures (before, during and after)! Your fix will encourage others to tackle their projects.
- Rate your helpers generously, but honestly, after the fix. This will encourage great hosts and helpers, and discourage bad ones. If behavior is particularly distressing, contact an admin at admin@fixersisters.com.
- Be patient. We do DIY because we love it. Mistakes will happen, but be gracious with yourself and with others. Most importantly: Have fun!
DON’T:
- Ask helpers to participate in fixes beyond your or their expertise or comfort level
- Conduct fixes in an unsafe manner or without proper safety equipment and precautions
- Offer your helpers money for their work. If you are asked for money, please contact admin@fixersisters.com so that member can be removed from the site. Offering snacks is never a bad idea.
- Ignore concerns or warning signs. Use your best judgment in determining whether to have a helper in your home.
How to Be a Good Helper
DO:
- Arrive on time, and stay for the full scheduled fix. You can stay longer if asked, but if not, plan to leave promptly.
- Care for your host’s home as you would your own. Be honest about mistakes, and do what you can to make them right.
- Take your cues from your host on how much to help. Take the lead if asked, but if not, be willing to take direction.
- Rate your host and fellow helpers generously, but honestly, after the fix. This will encourage great hosts and helpers, and discourage bad ones. If behavior is particularly distressing, contact an admin at admin@fixersisters.com.

DON’T:
- EVER ask your host for money. Asking for compensation even once is grounds for removal from FixerSisters.
- Promote any business you may be part of during a fix.
- Do anything you’re uncomfortable doing or anything you feel is unsafe.
- Ignore concerns or warning signs. Use your best judgment in determining whether to visit a host’s home or take part in a fix.
